MASSAGE

Mary Elizabeth Smith has been licensed since November 1982 with the Oregon Department of Health, Board of Massage Therapists. She is entering her 35th year as a massage clinician. Mary is also one of the founders of the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists.

Mary's scope of practice is focused exclusively on providing deep tissue therapy. She considers herself to be a "bodyworker" rather than a massage therapist whose focus of practice is solely providing relaxation.

Throughout the years, she has complemented and extended her professional knowledge with education in various massage modalities, including:

Cranial-sacral therapy
Neuro-muscular release
Touch-for-health

Myo-fascia release
Acupressure / Trigger point
Deep tissue release technique

Mary considers her understanding of Kinesiology or the "Science of Muscle Movement" to be one of her strong points.
"The key to releasing tight or fixated muscles is to understand muscle grouping and how they work and affect each other. A competent bodyworker should be able to evaluate this chain and quickly design and fabricate treatment within each session"
Mary's sessions are approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. She uses moist heat from a Hydroculator, plus Vibracussor and other massage tools when necessary. Mary is open five to six days a week, taking late morning and early evening appointments. She usually works two Saturdays a month. Session fees range for $85 to $125.
